Scuderia 65

The new design created by the award-winning Designer Harry Miesbauer designed Scuderia 65 is in fact a real Racer-Cruisercertainly the most complex and sophisticated from the point of view of composite construction and lightweight interior.

We tried to build it to control overall weight and structural integrity every time, essential qualities for a racing boat with special care for the interior, as it should be in a 65-foot sailboat.

In keeping with the Scuderia brand, the Scuderia 65 is also a boat designed for racing, without forgetting comfort on board. The boat is characterized by its details and essential style.

The yacht is characterized by an intensive use of stylish and intelligent solutions, such as the predominant use of the hydraulic system to maximize ease of use even with a reduced crew.

The boat's draught is greater compared to other boats in its class. It is 4.4 m long and the lifting keel with its 2.9 m raised position makes it easier to return to harbors.
The keel matches the harmony of the interior spaces, which, although essential, convey a feeling of home and comfort. The interior layout is divided from the bow into the owner's area, saloon, guest area and crew as well as the technical areas such as the sail box, engine room and lazarette.

      Award-winning design

      The sleek hull lines and clean deck are perfectly combined with an elegant and minimalist interior. At once practical for sail handling while racing and architectural in its styling, this is an interior that truly combines form and function successfully.

      No wonder the boat was awarded the coveted A' Design Award this year by an international jury of design experts who recognized its aesthetic qualities and sailing capabilities. "Winning the Yachts and Watercraft category means a lot to me, and it's satisfying to close the book on a long story," says Miesbauer.

      "Also because it is awarded by a jury made up of product and automotive designers, architects and design journalists."

      Of course, the Scuderia 65 has many unique design features, most visibly the flat coachroof with all-round window. "No one else does this on sailing yachts," says Miesbauer. "It's an aesthetic trick to stretch the appearance and give it a more elegant look."

      He uses a similar trick to play with the perspectives in the boat's saloon. If you stand at the keel fairing and look aft, your eye sees a companionway that extends to the cockpit and is extended upwards by the narrowing steps.

      Another focal point was the controls around the two control consoles. The owner wanted hydraulic controls on the side of the console, so Miesbauer designed the main area around the corner of the pedestal and down to accommodate the buttons. The throttle is recessed into the top of the console where it is less obtrusive.

        Family friendly

        Unlike many fast IRC boats out there, the Scuderia 65 has been designed to also provide a comfortable base for cruising. The enclosed U-shaped galley to port is well equipped and spacious, and there are three cabins. The forward master cabin is a double with a dedicated sofa area and ensuite shower room. Two flexible double V-berths aft also have their own shower rooms, all in lightweight molded composite.

        Labor-saving devices such as washing machines and ice makers are installed in a modular fashion so that they can be easily removed for racing. "It all goes back to an initial conversation I had with the skipper and the owner during the Middle Sea Race a few years ago," says Miesbauer. "Together we came up with a concept for a bigger boat, fast offshore and with sexy lines, but where there was still a place for family cruising."

        "I think we've struck just the right balance, as this is a boat you would want to cross the Atlantic in. And despite her performance, she's not a complicated yacht. She's easy to handle for two, and wherever we had the choice between a complex technical solution and something simpler, we kept it simple."

        Miesbauer hopes that more of these boats will be built now that she has proven her potential against her peers. With a look that doesn't bow to the trends of the day and an award-winning design, the Scuderia 65 will be as fresh in five years' time as it is today.
